Heading into the "Sweet 16" many still hold the obvious picks of Kentucky or North Carolina but how many of you were expecting to see a number 13 seat this far in or even more remarkable seeing 4 teams advance from the same state which has never been accomplished before. To me coming off of such a strange year of events from weather to politics how could we possibly expect anything different from the world of sports? When you account in Peyton Manning and the NFL lockout to Linsanity and the NBA's own lockout then roll in Tebow and all that encompasses him in Denver you start to see how unpredictable, as if it ever was, our love for sports is.
So now you are staring at a broken bracket on a Monday morning while at your desk at work wondering where in the world did it all go wrong? And you would be just in doing so considering in the first two (real) rounds are 14 upsets by teams with lower seating progressing to the sweet 16. Not that this is something we haven't seen before but the brackets lost 2 number 2 seats in the first round with a number 5 and 4! Included in those number 2 seats is Duke and Missouri and while maybe neither team was picked by many to make the championship game they did in fact take up a lot of bracket real estate that is now left vacant in office pools and online tourney addicts across the board.
With many of you holding onto pieces of paper with X's crossing out every path of victory you so solidly studied and predicted with what you thought was without fail a guaranteed win you may be wondering what to do next. Well my friends do not be to let down by your boggled bracket because you are not alone. Except for those who have a trained chicken pick the teams or choose based on which college has the best mascot remember you are in the same boat as everyone else. Sure most of the county has Kentucky going all the way but from you hours of research you knew that. And yes while your beloved Duke or Georgetown is no longer you ace in the hole you hoped for to gain some advantage points look at the bright side. If you made your decisions on which team to advance in the tournament based on reasoning and accurate predictions be assured that so did everyone else. Carry on with your bracket. Don't give up. Don't throw it in your basketball hoop trashcan in the corner of your office. Hold tight and enjoy the tournament with the rest of the nation and prepare for UC to beat Ohio State and win the championship!
